UNITED NATIONS, September 27 (RIA Novosti) - The United States have informed Damascus about their airstrikes against Islamic State (IS) militant group positions, but it does not mean that Syria accepts the motion, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem told journalists on Saturday.
“Anyway, if their aim is to strike against ISIS, it's OK. But we still have our doubts about their hidden agenda,” Muallem said
“They informed us but this doesn't mean they have our acceptance,” he added.
Earlier in September, the United States announced the formation of an international coalition to combat the insurgents.
Since the beginning of the week, Washington expanded its airstrikes from Iraq to Syria.
Over the past days, the US has been carrying out strikes against the IS and other insurgents on the Syrian territory without any formal permission from Damascus.
On Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov questioned the legality of the US airstrikes in Syria as the action was taken without the formal approval and cooperation of Syrian government.
