Mexico City, September 28 (RIA Novosti), Dmitry Znamensky - At least eight people have died and six injured as a result of an earthquake in Peru, the country's authorities reported Sunday.
"We have examined the area and confirm the deaths of eight people – one man and seven women that also include four teenagers," Police Chief Rodrigo Prado was quoted by RPP radio as saying.
Tremors with a magnitude of 5.1 were registered in the province of Paruro, which is located in the region of Cusco south of the country.
All the victims used to live in the village of Miska, which is situated in the area that has suffered the earthquake the most.
There is no land connection with the village since the roads are buried beneath landslides.
Peru's Prime Minister Ana Jara Velásquez said on her Twitter account that a rescue team were dispatched to provide help to those affected by the earthquake. According to her, up to 90 percent of the buildings in Miska have been destroyed. The electricity, she said, is off as well.
