MOSCOW, September 28 (RIA Novosti) – The number of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAU) member states will grow and the first results of the integration are expected soon, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Sunday.
Moscow is open to any partnership on equal and mutually beneficial terms, Lavrov said in an interview to Russia’s Channel 5.
“This is how we build relationships with a lot of countries - China, India, the BRICS, the SCO cooperation, and implement long-term integration projects in the post-Soviet space - the Eurasian Economic Union (EAU) is being created. More countries are showing interest in it, and the membership will expand further. The process will take a long time but I am sure that our integration will bring the first results soon," Lavrov said.
The EAU treaty, signed between the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia on May 29, 2014, establishes an economic union between the three countries starting from January 1, 2015.
The agreement will create a single economic market, with the potential to become a new powerful center of economic development.
The republics of Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have also expressed interest in joining the organization.
