UNITED NATIONS, September 29 (RIA Novosti) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday compared the advances of militant Islam in the Middle East to the spread of cancer and called for consolidated effort to counter this global threat "before it's too late."
"Everywhere we look militant Islam is on the march...No one is beyond its sights, and it’s rapidly spreading in every part of the world. Their ultimate goal is to dominate the world," Netanyahu said in his UN speech.
"To protect the peace and security of the world we must remove the cancer before it is too late," he said.
Netanyahu devoted his speech to the topic of Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the new escalation of which began in June this year after Israel laid the blame for the death of three Israeli schoolboys on Hamas, a radical Palestinian Islamic organization and the de facto authority in Gaza. In response, Israel launched its operation "Protective Edge."
On August 26, the Palestinian Authority and Israel with the mediation of the Egyptian government agreed to an open-ended truce.
