MOSCOW, September 30 (RIA Novosti) - David Cameron and his government are set to spearhead a £100-million fund that will reportedly guarantee British people seven-day access to a GP (general practitioner) by 2020.
"People need to see their GP at a time that suits them and their family. That is why we will make sure everyone can see a GP seven days a week by 2020. We will also support thousands more GP practices to stay open longer, giving millions of patients better access to their doctor," Cameron said in a statement posted on his Facebook account Tuesday.
According to media records, patients will also be able to see their GPs outside of hospitals.
The £100-million project is expected to enter into force between 2015 and 2016.
The move by the Tory government comes amid another by The Labor Party, who claim their coming into power will guarantee a GP appointment in 48 hours.
"We will guarantee that you can get a GP appointment within 48 hours – and on the same day for those who need it," reads the statement published on The Labor Party's website.
The Labor Party has accused the Tory government of cutting funding for the GP extended hours scheme due to which there is lack of GP practice in the evenings and at weekends.
