A former FBI officer confessed his guilt to undermining a corruption investigation into a private military contractor on Monday, ABC News reports.

Retired White Plains agent Robert Lustyik, 52, reportedly shielded the head of a company accused of using secret data to poach $54 million in contracts for Afghan troop supply.

As prosecutors state, in return for a considerable payoff Lustyik tried to present suspect Michael Taylor as an important counterintelligence source and thus set the investigation on the wrong track.

Lustyik’s attorney claims his defendant pleaded guilty for family reasons.

Last August Robert Lustyik faced charges with conspiracy, bribery and disclosing confidential information. Allegedly, he and his friend sold documents used in the plot to harm a high-profile Bangladeshi politician.
