MOSCOW, October 1 (RIA Novosti) - The head of Abkhazian ANNA-news agency Marat Musin has contacted Russian Rossiya-24 TV Channel on Wednesday.
Earlier on Wednesday, a spokesman for the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) told RIA Novosti that Marat Musin has been captured by Ukrainian troops near Luhansk.
"We know that ANNA-news correspondent Marat Musin was captured by Ukrainian troops somewhere near Luhansk," the spokesman said.
Following this news, Russia's Investigative Committee announced that it began looking into the circumstances of disappearance of the journalist.
Since Kiev began its military operation against the independence supporters of southeastern Ukraine in mid-April, a number of foreign journalists have been arrested, trying to perform their professional duties, in the conflict area.
Earlier this year, Human Rights Watch (HRW) expressed concern with Kiev's practice to deny entrance to Ukraine or arrest journalists from Russia.
Russia has called on UN, OSCE and UNESCO to protect the rights and dignity of the media representatives, covering the Ukrainian crisis.
