WARSAW, October 1 (RIA Novosti) - Poland's new cabinet will do everything possible to allow for an increase of the US military presence in the country, new Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz said Wednesday.
"In light of what is happening in Ukraine, it is important to strengthen the relations with the United States. My government will do everything to increase the US military presence in Poland," Kopacz said.
"My government will ensure the security of Poland and Poles. We will increase defense spending in 2016 to 2 percent of the GDP," she added. According to Kopacz, spending will be increased on the modernization of the Polish army and the purchase of new weapons.
Later on Wednesday, the Polish parliament is expected to debate a vote of confidence on Kopacz' new government. Earlier this month, Kopacz was named to succeed Donald Tusk, who was elected President of the European Council.
