MOSCOW, October 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's largest charity foundation for children Rusfond is the most transparent and honest in the country, Russian children's rights commissioner Pavel Astakhov said on Wednesday.
"We had an agreement with Rusfond, with our partners, because Rusfond today is one of the largest Russian funds, it is the most transparent," Astakhov told journalists at a press-conference dedicated to the upcoming children charity concert of the famous opera singer Dmitri Hvorostovsky in Moscow.
The children's rights commissioner also said that the government's role in helping the country's seriously ill children and orphans is notable, but not always sufficient.
"If we combine the efforts of the society, the state, and the people of goodwill, we can help anyone. Today, there should be no such problems [of helping ill children]," he added.
The charity concert "Dmitri Hvorostovsky and friends - for Children" will take place in Moscow on October 4. All of the participants of the concert, including Hvorostovsky, will not accept any pay as all the funds raised will be given to Russian seriously ill children. There will also be several hundred children from orphanages present at the concert as spectators.
The Rusfond charity foundation specializes on helping ill children, disabled and orphans. It was created in 1996 and since then has helped hundreds of children, sick with cerebral palsy, heart and oncology-related diseases. $170,5 million have been so far donated for the fund's causes.
