MOSCOW, October 3 (RIA Novosti) – The European Union, France and the United Kingdom in particular, follows a US policy with regard to Ukraine, George Galloway, British MP for Bradford West and leader of the Respect Party, told RIA Novosti Friday.

"The events in Ukraine, just like the events in Hong Kong, are made in the USA and the Europeans are following a US policy, whether voluntarily or under pressure," Galloway said.

"I doubt that it [US pressure on the EU to impose sanctions against Russia] would be necessary. [French President Francois] Hollande and [British Prime Minister David] Cameron are poodles of the United States," Galloway added.

On Thursday, US Vice President Joe Biden said that the United States and US President Barack Obama forced EU member-states to "take economic hits to impose cost" on Russia, despite their reluctance to do so.

Commenting on Biden's statement, spokesperson for EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Maja Kocijancic told RIA Novosti Friday that the EU decision with regard to anti-Russian sanctions was "independent, autonomous" and was made "in light of the gravity of the situation in Ukraine".

The relations between Russia and the United States have deteriorated amid the Ukrainian crisis, as Washington kept blaming Moscow for meddling in Ukraine's internal affairs – claims that Russia has repeatedly denied.

Over the past few months, the United States has introduced several rounds of economic sanctions against Russia, with the EU and US allies later following in Washington's footsteps and drawing up their own blacklists.

In August, Moscow responded to western sanctions, implementing a one-year ban on certain food imports from the European Union, the United States, Australia, Canada and Norway.
