MOSCOW, October 3 (RIA Novosti) - Typhoon Phanfore, which is due to strike the Japanese city of Suzuka on Sunday, at the time of Japan's Grand Prix, could cause problems for teams traveling to Russia for the country's inaugural Formula-1 event scheduled to take place next weekend in the city Sochi, Autosport.com reported Friday.

The teams are currently in Suzuka, preparing for the Japanese Grand Prix, the 15th in this year's Formula-1 calendar.

Although the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) hopes that the Suzuki race will not be affected by adverse weather conditions, but experts worry that the typhoon could hamper packing up and shipping the cars to Russia.

Nevertheless, it is not thought that Russian GP is at a risk of being canceled, but the teams and the drivers may experience certain difficulties during preparations for the race.

The Russian Grand Prix will be the culmination of more than three decades of efforts to bring the sport to Russia, dating back to Soviet government plans for a Moscow Grand Prix that never came to fruition.

Only two F1 races have ever been held in Russia. They took place in 1913 and 1914 in Saint Petersburg. The race was then abandoned following the beginning of the World War One.

One hundred years later, on October 12, the sixteenth race of the 2014 Formula One season will take place at the Sochi Autodrom.

The Sochi Autodrom is 5.852 km (2.637) miles long and comprises 19 turns.
