MOSCOW, October 5 (RIA Novosti) - Several hundreds of people took part in the protests against Britain's participation in the US-led anti-IS military operation, Sky News TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to the Sky News, people have gathered in the center of London, holding the slogans reading "Hands off the Middle East" and "Stop bombing Iraq." The manifestation came to an end by the residency of the British Prime Minister David Cameron at Downing Street.
The protests in the capital of UK follow the Friday's release of a video, showing the killing of a British taxi driver Alan Henning by the Islamic State (IS) militants. Henning came to the Middle East as an aid volunteer and was taken captive by IS on December 26 after crossing the Turkish border into Syria.
The Islamic State, which is a Sunni extremist group, has seized large parts of Syria and northern Iraq and proclaimed a caliphate on the controlled areas. The terrorist group has earlier unveiled videos, showing the execution of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff and a British aid worker David Haines.
Early in September US President Barack Obama announced his decision to form an international anti-IS coalition and conduct airstrikes against IS positions in Syria, while continuing airstrikes against the group's targets in Iraq, which he authorized in August.
On September 26 British Parliament has approved UK participation in the international anti-IS operation in Iraq and on September 30 British Tornado fighter jets have conducted first airstrikes against Islamic State targets in this country.
