UNITED NATIONS, October 4 (RIA Novosti) - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday said he welcomed the rare talks between the South and the North Korea.
Ban Ki-moon said he "welcomes the high-level political dialogue that took place between the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea today on the margins of the closing ceremony of the Incheon Asian Games. It is encouraging that the two parties agreed to hold another round of high-level talks soon."
DPRK has complained to the UN Security Council about the Republic of Korea's joint military exercises with the United States and others.
On Saturday Ban Ki-moon, formerly the South Korean foreign minister, noted that he "has repeatedly emphasized that a dialogue is the only way to resolve outstanding issues."
The UN on Saturday said Ban "reiterates his hope that the parties concerned will continue to build positive momentum toward a peaceful and denuclearized Korean peninsula."
