TALLINN, October 5 (RIA Novosti) - Numerous demonstrators went out to the streets of Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, to promote the traditional family values and speak out against a proposed Civil Partnership Act, which also concerns homosexual couples.

Demonstrators carried posters, saying, “Marriage is a union between a man and a woman,” “Accepting Civil Partnership Act means death of democracy.”

The protests have been organized by Protecting Family and Traditions Foundation. The organization’s head, Varro Vooglaid said that the members of Estonian parliament should recognize that many people speak against the proposed act, which ruins the concepts of marriage and family.

In June, at the first reading of the Civil Partnership Act in Estonia, 45 members of parliament were in favor and 25 spoke against. A second reading of the bill will be held on October 7, with final voting scheduled for October 9.

If the bill passes, Estonia could become the first ex-Soviet country to legalize same-sex partnerships.

On Friday, Estonian TNS Emor published results of a recent poll on people’s views towards the Civil Partnership Act. The results indicate that 67 percent of Estonian people oppose introduction of the bill that would officially recognize same-sex unions in the country.
