Formula One Race in Japan Stopped Due to Typhoon, Hamilton Wins

Formula-1 Japanese Grand Prix was stopped on lap 47 out of 53 due to adverse weather conditions and typhoon Phanfone approaching Suzuka, Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes AMG team won the race.

MOSCOW, October 5 (RIA Novosti) - Formula-1 Japanese Grand Prix was stopped on lap 47 out of 53 due to adverse weather conditions and typhoon Phanfone approaching Suzuka, Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes AMG team won the race.

Nico Rosberg, also racing for Mercedes AMG, finished second, Daniel Ricciardo from Infiniti Red Bull Racing in the third place.

Russian racer Daniil Kvyat from Toro Rosso finished 11th.

The exciting race started as the safety car led the cars into the first corner due to heavy rain. The race was red flagged in the beginning, and later restarted.

On lap 42, Adrian Sutil’s car slid from the track and the medical car went out to assist the driver. After the ambulance appeared on track, the race was stopped on the 47th lap and officials said it would not be resumed.

Typhoon Phanfone hit Japan Friday night, winds are currently gusting to 216 km/h (134 mph). All ferry services across the country, and over 200 flights have been cancelled.

The next Formula-1 race will take place in Russia next weekend. Russian Grand Prix will be held on October 12 at the Sochi Autodrom.

The Sochi Autodrom is 5.852 km (2.637) miles long and comprises 19 turns. The maximum speed, which can be achieved on the track is 320 km/h (199 mph).
