RIGA, October 5 (RIA Novosti) - The 12th election to the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia, the Saeima will change the parliament's composition by 43 percent according to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission (CEC).
According to the CEC, 43 out of 100 deputies chosen in the 12th Saeima will be newcomers.
The opposition party, Harmony (also referred to as Concord Party), which won the elections, can apply for 25 seats of the 100 in the Saeima. The Unity Party can apply for 23 seats while the Union of Greens and Farmers will have 21. The All for Latvia! Nationalist and far-right political party has 17 seats while two new parties, From the Heart of Latvia and the Latvian regional association can obtain seven seats each.
Elections to the Saeima took place in Latvia on October 4. The winning party Harmony supports the Russian-speaking population of Latvia. Party leader Neil Ushakov in 2009 became the first mayor of Riga in the country. To date, he is considered the most popular politician in Latvia.
