NEW DELHI, October 6 (RIA Novosti) - Rakesh Kumar, the father of three-year-old Jhanvi Ahuja, who went missing in India over a week ago, is grateful to the social media users who helped to find his daughter, he said in an interview with RIA Novosti on Monday.
"Social media has played a really big role in finding my daughter. I am delighted that my daughter is finally with me," Jhanvi's father told RIA Novosti.
Jhanhvi was found in the Janakpur area of West Delhi after her family launched a massive social media campaign.
"On Sunday night I received a call from someone. He told me that he had found a girl, with a placard around her neck, with her name, Jhanvi written on it and a phone number, which he was dialing... Then I immediately rushed to the Nangal Raya locality of Jankakpuri and found Jhanvi", Gaurav Chopra, Jhanvi's maternal uncle, told RIA Novosti in an exclusive interview.
Gurav Chopra also said that he was thankful to social and electronic media and the Delhi police.
Since the disappearance of the three-year-old girl on September 28, her parents and relatives launched a massive social media campaign, asking for help to find their daughter. Jhanvi's pictures were posted on Facebook and there was lots of attention on Twitter with users actively reposting the news and trying to assist the family.
Delhi police also promised a reward of 50,000 rupees ($840) to anyone who could give information on Jhanvi's whereabouts.
It is still unclear whether she was actually kidnapped, although Jhanvi's parents had earlier suggested that this was the case, the investigation is still ongoing.
Police, based on modus operandi, suspected that those who held a girl captive may have been frightened by increased media attention and pressure from the police, and finally decided to release Jhanvi.
