STOCKHOLM, October 6 (RIA Novosti) - The Nobel Laureates for the year of 2014 will be announced in Stockholm and Oslo October 6 through October 13, the statement posted on the organization's website reads.
The awarding week will start this Monday at 11:30 a.m. Stockholm time (09:30 GMT) from the announcement of the winners of the Nobel prize in physiology or medicine, followed by the announcement of the winners in the field of physics on Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. and of those in chemistry on Wednesday, again at 11:45 Stockholm time.
On Friday at 09:00 a.m. GMT, the Norwegian Nobel Committee will reveal the name of the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo. This year's number of the candidates for this category is 278, which, according to the statement, is the biggest number of candidates ever. It is reported that of the 278 candidates 47 are organizations.
The awarding week will conclude on October 13 in Stockholm after the Nobel Prize winner in Economic Sciences is announced at 13:00 p.m. local time.
The date for the announcement of the Nobel Prize in literature will be announced on Monday morning, the statement reads.
The amount the Nobel Laureates will receive this year is about $1 million.
The Nobel Prize has been awarded since 1901 for cultural and scientific achievements. Since then, a total number of 876 laureates have received the prize, 851 researchers and public figures, and 25 organizations among them. In 2013, 12 people from the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Canada became the winners of the Nobel Prize. The Nobel Peace Prize for 2013 was taken by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
