BEIRUT, October 7 (RIA Novosti) – Israel will answer the Hezbollah provocations in the Shebaa Farms on the Israel-Lebanon border as it deems appropriate, the Israeli military said Tuesday as quoted by Lebanese Murr Television.
“We reserve the right to answer at any time in a way we deem fit to protect Israel,” the military said, as cited by the television station.
“The Lebanese government and Hezbollah are directly responsible for this blatant breach of Israel's sovereignty,” Peter Lerner, the IDF spokesperson tweeted earlier in the day.
On Tuesday, Hezbollah fighters detonated a bomb near an Israeli tank near the Al-Sendaneh area in the Shebaa Farms, southern Lebanon, a strip of disputed land located at the intersection of the Lebanese-Syrian border and Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The blast left three Israeli soldiers wounded.
In response to the attack, Israel shelled Kfar Shuba Heights in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah is a paramilitary and political organization originating in Lebanon's Shiite population, fighting for an Islamic state in Lebanon. It is one of Israel's most powerful opponents, but members of the group, which controls most of Lebanon's southern regions, have maintained the ceasefire since the end of the Lebanon War in 2006.
