MOSCOW, October 7 (RIA Novosti) - The forces of the US-led international coalition have carried out around 10 percent of over 1,700 airstrikes against the Islamic State (IS) and other terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria, Agence France-Presse reported Tuesday, citing anonymous defense officials.

Since the beginning of airstrikes against the IS targets in Iraq back in August, the United States has conducted 1,768 airstrikes, while Arab and European aircraft have carried out around 195 attacks, according to the agency’s sources.

According to the data released Monday, Washington has spent around $1.1 billion on military action against the IS jihadists since June. Also, some $62 million have been spent on Navy airstrikes. The cost of US Air Force attacks has not been revealed.

The IS extremists have proclaimed an Islamic caliphate on the vast areas, seized across Iraq and Syria. The United States has been carrying out anti-IS airstrikes in Iraq since August.

In September, US President Barack Obama announced his strategy, aimed at defeating the IS and preventing the terrorism from spreading across the Middle East. The US-led coalition started conducting airstrikes against the IS in Syria the same month.
