MOSCOW, October 8 (RIA Novosti) - The association agreement between Georgia and the European Parliament will be ratified by the end of 2014, News Georgia reported Wednesday.
"We agreed that by the end of the year, by December, the European parliament would obligatorily ratify the association agreement," the newspaper quoted State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Aleksi Petriashvili as saying.
Petriashvili is currently on an official visit in Brussels, where he has also had a meeting with Luis Felipe Fernandez de la Pena, former ambassador of Spain to Russia and the current Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok.
The newspaper also reported that Petriashvili will meet EU Regional Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahn over a series of high-level meetings next week.
Georgia has been in talks with the EU over the association agreement since 2010. The deal was rolled out in 2013 and signed on June 27, 2014. On July 18, the parliament of Georgia unanimously ratified the agreement.
