KIEV, October 8 (RIA Novosti) - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has no plans to reduce the presence in Ukraine after the tragic death of their employee in Donetsk, the press office of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported Wednesday, citing the ICRC head of operations for Europe and Central Asia, Laurent Corbaz.
"Corbaz has assured [during a meeting of the ICRC delegation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin in Kiev] that the ICRC is not going to reduce its presence in Ukraine and is ready to continue its humanitarian mission in the east of the country," the press service reported.
In turn, Klimkin noted the importance of further work of the committee in Ukraine and said that the plans of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to expand the presence of its monitoring mission in Ukraine would help provide necessary security for the work of the ICRC.
On October 2, the ICRC reported that one of its staff, a 38-year-old Swiss national Laurent DuPasquier, was killed in Donetsk when a shell landed near the organization's premises.
On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Ministry said that Kiev had failed to give clear explanations about the death of the employee and reiterated the need for a detailed and unbiased investigation into the incident.
