MOSCOW, October 8 (RIA Novosti) - Super typhoon Vongfong is expected to hit Japan by the end of the week and is a serious threat to the country, France 24 reported on Wednesday.
According to satellites, the storm is turning to the North across the Western Pacific Ocean and heading towards the country's interior. It is estimated to reach wind speeds of 155 mph and have a central pressure of 908 millibars, becoming the most severe hurricane in 2014 so far, the Washington Post reports.
Vongfong is reported to be as strong as devastating typhoon Haiyan, which hit the Philippines in 2013 and killed approximately 6300 people. It falls under the most severe category of five and is forecasted to possibly strengthen to 895 milibars, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.
Fortunately, the monster typhoon is unlikely to make landfall while being so intense. By Saturday morning, the storm is forecasted to become weaker and reach category three, followed by a category two, when the wind will sustain a speed of 105 mph, as reported by Reuters.
Last week, the country was hit by another monster typhoon Phanfone. The storm led to the evacuation of approximately 400,000 people from their homes and caused several injuries.
