MOSCOW, October 9 (RIA Novosti) - Canadian Health Minister Rona Ambrose has announced that passengers arriving from West Africa will be subject to additional temperature screening in the wake of the deadly Ebola outbreak, Agence France-Presse reported Thursday.
"Canada's preparedness is high... The government will be taking the additional step of doing targeted temperature screens," Ambrose said, without specifying when or where this measure would be enforced.
This statement followed an announcement by White House spokesman Josh Earnest who said Wednesday additional controls would soon go into effect at five US airports – in New York, Washington, Chicago and Atlanta – following the tragic death of America's first Ebola patient. Temperatures will reportedly be taken with the help of a hand-held device.
The Ebola epidemic currently taking place in West Africa broke out in Guinea and later spread across Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal.
The virus is transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of those infected. Its symptoms include high fever, diarrhea and vomiting, among others. The incubation period is two to 21 days.
