SOCHI, October 9 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's first ever Formula 1 Grand Prix in Sochi shows the country from a different perspective, Lewis Hamilton Formula-1 driver from Mercedes AMG team said Thursday.
"It's first time we've been here in Russia. It's huge. So far it's an interesting country. Yesterday I was really impressed by Moscow, [and then] arrived here to completely different place to Moscow. People maybe thought that Russia is vodka and what we see in the movies, but here is another view with mountains, sea, good weather," Hamilton told reporters.
"It's great to see how excited and enthusiastic people are here, it's huge for them. I hope this event will have a good future here," he added.
The landmark event for Russian and international motorsport is due to be held at the Sochi Autodrome, the first and only circuit in Russia hosting Formula 1, between October 10-12.
The Sochi Autodrome is 5.852 km (2.637) miles long and comprises 19 bends. The maximum speed, which can be achieved on the track is 320 km/h (199 mph).
