RIO DE JANEIRO, October 10 (RIA Novosti) - The first suspected case of Ebola has been reported in Brazil where a man from Guinea, one of the affected West African countries, was hospitalized overnight with symptoms consistent with the lethal Ebola virus disease, the Brazilian Health Ministry said.

The 47-year-old was taken to an isolated ward at a hospital in the western Brazilian city of Cascavel, in Parana state, after developing Ebola-like symptoms 21 days after leaving West Africa, the O Globo newspaper cited health authorities as saying.

Ebola has an incubation period of up to 21 days and is spread through direct contact with bodily fluids. The symptoms include high fever, diarrhea and vomiting, among others. The mortality rate of the current outbreak is at more than 50 percent.

Since the end of 2013 the Ebola epidemic spread across the West African nations of Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria and Senegal. A separate outbreak, unrelated to the one in West Africa, is taking place in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
