MEXICO CITY, October 10 (RIA Novosti) - Four more clandestine burial pits holding 15 bodies have been found in the southern Mexican city of Iguala as government investigators are looking for clues related to the vanishing of 43 student protesters, the nation's Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam said.
The new findings have brought up the number of discovered mass grave to ten. The six pits that were found last week contained remains of 28 people. They have not been identified yet.
Dozens of students went missing in the southern state of Guerrero after their anti-education reform demonstration on September came under a violent attack by police forces and local gangsters.
A total of 34 suspects have been held in the case so far, Karam said, adding it was four new suspects who took investigators to the secret mass graves 200 kilometers south of Mexico City.
The attorney general also confirmed that an arrest warrant had been issued for Iguala mayor Jose Luis Albarca, his wife and the state's security chief. The trio are accused of having links to organized crime groups.
On Tuesday, Mexican federal forces moved into the troubled city to disarm all police units. Since then, the security in the area has been enhanced by federal forces. In addition, all disarmed policemen were sent to a retraining center, while their weapons are being examined for evidence of usage in the recent violence in Iguala.
