SANAA, October 11 (RIA Novosti) - Al-Qaeda militants have seized the office of the local administration in central Yemen's al-Bayda province, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported from the area Saturday.
According to the witnesses, the militants broke into the building and seized equipment and documents. Armed guards have reportedly not resisted the storm.
Al-Bayda province is routinely attacked by al-Qaeda, which is trying to retain influence in the region. On Thursday, some 15 insurgents and 14 Yemeni soldiers died in clashes.
Despite the stabilization measures introduced by the Yemeni authorities, al-Qaeda fighters carry out regular attacks in the country's central and southern regions.
