MOSCOW, October 12 (RIA Novosti) - At least 25 people have died in a triple car bomb attack in the Kurdish-controlled northern Iraqi town of Qara Tapah, Agence France-Presse (AFP) said Sunday.
"At 10:30 [a.m.] this morning [07:30 GMT], three car bombs struck Qara Tapah," city mayor Wahab Ahmed told the agency.
The three attacks apparently targeted the mayor office, Kurdish internal security service building and the office of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan party.
On Saturday, three blasts struck the Shiite district of the country's capital Baghdad, while a separate attack was committed by a suicide bomber at a market in the rural outskirts of Baghdad. According to Iraq Body Count data, 78 civilians were killed on that day.
The situation in Iraq remains unstable as the country is currently fighting the Islamic State, a radical Sunni group, which has been fighting the Syrian government since 2012 and extended its attacks to northern and western Iraq in June 2014.
