KHABAROVSK, October 13 (RIA Novosti) – Japanese businessmen are considering the possibility of producing auto parts in Khabarovsk Territory, in Russia's Far East, a statement released by local authorities Monday said.
"The most promising areas [of cooperation], according to the parties involved, could be the involvement of Japanese businesses in the production of auto parts in the region, as well as the resumption of timber and lumber supplies to Japan," the statement said.
Earlier, a delegation from the industrial city of Higashiosaka, located in Japan's Osaka Prefecture, visited Khabarovsk and met with local government and business representatives, discussing the possibilities for future cooperation. The delegation included heads of small and medium-sized industrial enterprises operating in various fields, including auto parts manufacturing and paper production.
There are currently no facilities for the production of automobile parts in Russia's Far East. Most of the cars used in the region are produced in Japan.
