MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - Over 1,000 protesters in the city of Saint Louis, Missouri staged a sit-in at St. Louis University on Monday, as part of continuing demonstrations after two consecutive shootings of Afro-American teenagers by white police officers, the Washington Post reported.
The demonstrators first gathered in the Shaw neighborhood, where the most recent police shooting took place.
Police officers holding cans of pepper spray threatened to arrest the protesters while they were walking through the streets and chanting, “They think it’s a game. They think it’s a joke.”
The family of 18-year-old Vonderrit Myers who was shot and killed by a police officer earlier this month marched at the front of the demonstrators.
“This let me know that my son was loved and he is still being loved, right now,” Vonderitt Myers Sr. said as quoted by the Washington Post.
The death of Myers is the second such incident in St. Louis County. In August, police officer Darren Wilson, also white, shot dead Michael Brown, an 18-year-old African American, in Ferguson.
The killing led to massive protests, which forced Missouri Governor Jay Nixon to issue a state of emergency in the city.
