MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow and Beijing signed a number of intergovernmental agreements on Monday on gas deliveries, satellite systems, the financing of banks, taxation and several other spheres.
Documents on cooperation for the delivery of Russian gas to China via the eastern route were signed as a result of Russian-Chinese intergovernmental talks. The gas agreement was signed by Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak and his Chinese counterpart.
Three Russian banks hit by Western sanctions - Vnesheconombank, VTB and Rosselkhozbank - have attracted financing from the Exim Bank of China and agreements on financing were signed by Vnesheconombank head Vladimir Dmitriev, VTB's Andrey Kostin, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board at Rosselkhozbank Victoria Kirina and the Vice President of Exim Bank Yuan Xingyong.
Russia's Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) and the Commission on the Chinese satellite navigation system have signed a memorandum on cooperation in the sphere of global navigation systems. It was signed by the head of Roscosmos Oleg Ostapenko.
Both governments also signed an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion prevention.
Several other agreements were also signed Monday, including memorandums on cooperation and strategic cooperation plans between customs services for the period 2014-19. The State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) and JSC Russian Grids signed an agreement on cooperation on the construction and reconstruction of new power grids.
A memorandum of understanding for high-speed rail networks was signed by Russian Railways, China Railway Construction Corporation, Russian Transport Ministry and China's National Development and Reform Commission.
All these agreements were signed within the frameworks of the meeting between Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang. The Chinese prime minister is in Moscow on a three-day official visit, which is his first visit to the country since his appointment in March 2013. On October 14, Li Keqiang will be an honorable guest at the 2014 Open Innovations Forum in Moscow.
In the wake of western sanctions against Russia's key economic sectors, Moscow has energized its technology cooperation and trade ties with China. Beijing is Russia's largest trade partner, with the trade turnover between the two countries expected to reach $100 billion by 2015.
