MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) – Police in the Californian town of Bakersfield say they have had an increased number of complains about scary clowns terrifying the local residents, some of them holding firearms, machetes and baseball bats.
“We’ve had multiple [such] clown sightings all over town,” the local media quotes Bakersfield police lieutenant Jason Matson as saying. “He was gone by the time we arrived.”
The police, however, said they’ve detained one teenager who acknowledged dressing up and chasing youngsters.
The teen also admitted to copying the likeness of the “Wasco Clown”, who was named for the small San Joaquin Valley town.
Wasco residents say they’ve seen the clown roaming the streets every night since October 1st. Locals look for him at night with the help of social media.
The clown is active on social media using Twitter, Facebook and even Instagram to update his whereabouts under the name Wasco Clown.
His identity remains a mystery but some believe there might be more than one person behind it.
A recent interview with the clown, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that the social media postings are part of a year-long photography project conducted by his wife.
