MOSCOW, October 14 (RIA Novosti) - An explosive device, reportedly capable of causing great harm, has been detected by the police of Northern Ireland in Londonderry, BBC informed on Tuesday.
“At this time we are not in a position to elaborate on the nature of the device but we can confirm it was viable and we believe it was capable of causing great harm and even of killing,” said Tony Callaghan, Chief Inspector at the Police Service of Northern Ireland, cited by the Irish Times.
The device was discovered near an empty house listed for sale. After the alert, residents of 30 houses were evacuated for safety reasons. Many of them were scared and distressed about the situation.
"We've two young kids and it's normally their bed time. Now they're unsettled and my daughter's on prescription milk and we can't get access to it," said a resident of the affected Ballyarnett area.
A country’s official stated that the incident was especially dangerous because of a high number of children living in the region. She said that Ballyarnett is inhabited by numerous young families and is considered quiet and secure area.
According to the Irish Times, the situation is currently stabilized and people are allowed to come back home.
