MOSCOW, October 16 (RIA Novosti) - Ron Morais of Fredericton, Canada found a dead mouse in a coffee cup he was given after ordering from his local McDonald’s restaurant, CBC News reports.

"I always take the lid off to get my last sip of coffee. And when I took the lid off, there was a little bit of a surprise in my coffee cup. It was a dead mouse," Morais was quoted as saying by CBC News.

Jason Patuano, the communications manager for the eastern region for McDonald’s Canada issued a statement on how seriously the company follows food safety rules.

"Upon learning of this situation, the local franchisee immediately began an investigation, including working closely with the local public health authority who conducted an inspection this morning following receiving a complaint," the statement said.

The inspection record completed by the Department of Health found there "was no evidence of pests". The restaurant was given no warnings.
McDonald’s Canada also stated that a pest control company found no sign of any rodents in the building.

"We are continuing to investigate this isolated incident and have reached out to the customer to obtain the product sample," the statement said.
