MOSCOW, October 16 (RIA Novosti) – Russian tennis player Nikolai Davydenko formally announced his retirement from professional sport at a press conference held during the Kremlin Cup on Thursday.
Davydenko's retirement plans were previously made public by national team coach Vladimir Kamelzon this summer.
"Now I have changed the sports uniform to a suit, and I should get used to it, though I do not feel too comfortable now," Davydenko said at the press conference.
"Now I have started to realize what I will strive for. I cannot say what exactly it will be, but these activities will be connected with finances, it will be some business," the former world No. 3 added.
The tennis player also noted that his future activities would target not only Russia, but also the international market.
"As people call me, I am a 'globally minded person,' people know me not only in Russia, but also in other states. We will see – I am interested in new technologies, self-development and people close to my way of thinking with whom I can work together and move forward," Davydenko said.
Davydenko's career-high third place in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings was achieved in 2006. He has qualified for the semifinals of the French Open and the US Open tennis tournaments twice. In 2009, Davydenko won the ATP World Tour Finals, and in 2006 won the Davis Cup with the Russian team.
