MILAN, October 17 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is playing an important role in many global issues, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said Friday following the working breakfast on the sidelines of the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit in Milan.
"The role of Russia is very important in many fields," Renzi said highlighting that Russia's participation in struggle against ISIS and Ebola is crucial.
"We care very much about the possibility to involve again Russia in the international situation. This is my point of view, but not only mine. I think at this moment of very hard crisis in the world," Renzi added.
The high-level breakfast meeting lasted for about hour and a half and was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande, UK Prime Minister David Cameron, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy.
The talks were mediated by Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, who spoke favorably of the atmosphere at Friday's meeting.
At the ASEM summit the leaders of more than 50 countries are to discuss sustainable development, global security and the situation in Ukraine.
