MOSCOW, October 18 (RIA Novosti) - Three men died and one was taken to hospital after a car explosion at a checkpoint in the central district of Benghazi, Libya's second largest city, a city official said Saturday.
According to the official source in Benghazi, four young men, residents of the Buhedama central district, were injured as a result of the car bomb explosion on Friday. Three bodies were delivered to the Niphusi medical center on the same day. One man was taken to the center with heavy injuries and had surgery.
Since Wednesday Benghazi has been witnessing fierce clashes between Islamist militias and pro-government forces trying to recapture the city.
As of now, Libya's cities of Benghazi, Tripoli and Darnah are dominated by Islamist insurgents. Local residents talk of deteriorating religious tolerance, tightened control on the media and a sharp rise in Islamist propaganda in the area.
