KIEV, October 18 (RIA Novosti) - The Verkhovna Rada will consider banning Russian television series on Ukrainian channels, Ukraine's parliament speaker Oleksandr Turchynov said Saturday.
"I fully support the position of battalion commanders on the inadmissibility of broadcasting on domestic TV channels any media product, in particular, the TV shows, that glorify the enemies of our country, those who started and strongly support the war in Ukraine," Turchynov said, explaining that this is why he would insist on considering this issue at an extraordinary parliamentary meeting on Monday.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the commanders of the volunteer battalions had sent an open letter to the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, asking him to take measures to stop the broadcast of any movies or TV series about Russian military and security forces on Ukrainian TV channels.
Russia and Ukraine have been at odds ever since the February coup in Kiev prompted the Black Sea republic of Crimea and two east Ukrainian regions to speak out against the new leadership.
Ukraine and the West have repeatedly accused Russia of being militarily involved in the Ukrainian internal conflict. Moscow has denied these allegations.
