BRUSSELS, October 20 (RIA Novosti) - Foreign affairs ministers of the European Union (EU) have made a decision to appoint a coordinator of EU policies as part of an effort to fight the Ebola disease, EU officials said Monday following a meeting in Luxembourg.
"Today, all the ministers have practically supported the idea of appointing a coordinator. It will not be a special representative; rather, a coordinator who would deal with all the measures that the EU structures take," a diplomat who preferred to remain unnamed told RIA Novosti.
According to the diplomat, the European structures will have to choose a candidate for the post, with the selected process and further procedures related to the appointment to be decided upon later.
"It was said that most probably it will be impossible to fill the post within a week. But it is necessary that we do it in the near future," the diplomat added.
Meanwhile, another source noted that an official announcement should not yet be anticipated since the idea of appointing the envoy was still at an early stage of discussion.
