MADRID, October 20 (RIA Novosti) – Another person is suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus, the Catalan government said Monday on its website.
"The Catalan Public Health Agency has enabled the Ebola protocol … upon the arrival of a patient … who spent a week in Guinea and 35 days in Sierra Leone," the government statement said.
"The patient was delivered Saturday afternoon in Barcelona from Sierra Leone via Morocco," the statement added.
The patient is currently hospitalized in Barcelona and the doctors are awaiting the results of medical tests, expected within the next 24-48 hours. The 48-year-old patient will be formally diagnosed once the results are in.
Earlier, Spanish nurse Teresa Romero Ramos became infected with Ebola after treating Spanish priest Manuel Garcia Viejo, who had caught Ebola when assisting patients in Sierra Leone. Ramos tested positive for the virus on October 6.
However, the nurse's most recent blood test has revealed no traces of Ebola, as reported by spokesperson for the nurse's family Teresa Mesa on October 19. A second test will be conducted to confirm Ramos is not carrying the disease.
According to Spanish medics, the nurse's condition has recently stabilized and she is likely to recover shortly. Teresa Mesa confirmed the information, adding that Ramos had improved appetite and already could walk.
