MOSCOW, October 22 (RIA Novosti) - Apple CEO Tim Cook met with Chinese Vice Premier Ma Kai to exchange views on user information security and strengthening cooperation, Xinhua news agency reported Wednesday.

Cook and Ma "exchanged views on protection of users' information during their meeting in Zhongnanhai, the central authority's seat," the agency reported, adding, "They also exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in information and communication fields."

Cook's visit comes shortly after the attack on the iCloud web storage service, carried out by Chinese government-backed hackers, censorship monitoring website GreatFire.org reported on October 20. The website said that the attack on Apple was conducted to gain access to Chinese user data stored on iCloud, including photos, contacts and other information.

The US company said in a statement that it was aware of the attacks using insecure certificates to access user information, but made no mention of the country the attacks originated from.

In late August, Apple became the center of attention after hackers gained access to photos of celebrities stored on their iCloud accounts.
