MOSCOW, October 22 (RIA Novosti) - Walt Disney Animation Studios has officially revealed its new girl-centric animated adventure "Moana".
According to the official press release, the center of the new CG-animated comedy-adventure will be "a spirited teenager Moana on an impossible mission to fulfill her ancestors’ quest."
Moana follows a teenaged Polynesian princess, using her seafaring skills to search for a fabled island in her ancient South Pacific home of Oceania.
Along the way Moana meets a demigod named Maui and together they face "enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds, and ancient folklore."
The film is being directed by renowned filmmaking duo Ron Clements and John Musker ("The Little Mermaid," "The Princess and the Frog," "Aladdin").
"John and I have partnered on so many films—from ‘The Little Mermaid’ to 'Aladdin' to 'The Princess and the Frog," said Clements. "Creating 'Moana' is one of the great thrills of our career. It’s a big adventure set in this beautiful world of Oceania."
"Moana is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself," Musker said. "She’s the kind of character we all root for, and we can’t wait to introduce her to audiences."
Disney has already released a trailer to probe interest for the upcoming adventure, which is set to reach viewers in late 2016.
