MOSCOW, October 22 (RIA Novosti) - Over a hundred Hong Kong protesters staged an unauthorized march and headed toward the government house on Wednesday afternoon over the chief executive’s remarks that free elections would not be fair, as lower social classes would dominate the vote, The South China Morning Post reported.
During his recent interview with foreign media, Leung Chung-ying said that the vote would be dominated by half of Hong Kong people who earn less than $1,800 a month.
On Tuesday, five protesters met with five Hong Kong senior officials, but again failed to reach a compromise, or come to any agreements.
The Occupy Central with Love and Peace protests began on September 27 with demonstrators speaking out against the Chinese government's plans to control the 2017 Hong Kong election. Protesters claim Beijing has gone back on its pledge to allow universal suffrage in Hong Kong, which was promised a high degree of autonomy when it was handed back to China by Britain in 1997.
The protesters also demand that Leung steps down from his post.
