MOSCOW, October 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russian NHL Los Angeles Kings player Vyacheslav Voynov did not commit any crime and his arrest was a simple misunderstanding, Voynov’s lawyer Craig Renetzky told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

“Based on the information that I have received from my investigation, Mr. Voynov did not commit any crime and the arrest was the result of a misunderstanding about what actually occurred. It is our hope that the police will complete their investigation quickly, and that the matter will be closed,” Renetzky said.

Voynov’s lawyer reminded that the charges have not yet been brought against his client.

“It is important to note that he has not been charged with any crime. I interviewed a number of witnesses yesterday and am convinced that the arrest was the result of a language barrier that prevented the police from fully understanding what actually occurred,” Renetzky explained.

On Monday, Voynov was detained on suspicion of domestic violence and indefinitely suspended by the NHL from all club activities pending a formal investigation into the case. The Russian player was later released on $50,000 bail.

The court hearing in the case will be held on December, 1.

Renetzky added that Voynov hopes the NHL will soon lift its suspension, and he will be able to join his team in the next matches.

Twenty-four-year old Voynov joined Los Angeles Kings in 2011. With LA Kings, Voynov twice won the most prestigious hockey award, the Stanley Cup.
