MOSCOW, October 22 (RIA Novosti) - American toy retailer, Toys R Us is pulling its line of Breaking Bad action figures as over 9,000 people sign an online petition as of Wednesday started by a concerned mother in Florida.
"Re: BB "Let's just say, the action figures have taken an 'indefinite sabbatical,' " Toys R Us posted on Twitter Tuesday evening referencing a line from the popular AMC television series.
Susan Schrivjer posted a petition on Change.org in early October calling on Toys R Us to pull the toys depicting the two main characters from AMC's award-winning show, Breaking Bad. Toys R Us claimed the action figures were meant for customers aged 15 and up as collector items according to a statement from the company when first challenged by the petition.
"Sony Pictures Television has recently partnered with Toys R Us to release a collection of dolls based on the characters from Breaking Bad. The show centers on the story of a high school chemistry teacher who becomes a drug kingpin in order to make ends meet," Schrivjer who created the petition under the name Susan Myers, argued on Change.org.
"While the show may be compelling viewing for adults, its violent content and celebration of the drug trade make this collection unsuitable to be sold alongside Barbie dolls and Disney characters," she added.
The figurines sold with a detachable bag of money and bag of meth are a "dangerous deviation from their family friendly values," the Fort Myers mother said of Toys R Us' decision to manufacture and sell the product.
The dolls are based on the two main characters from the series, Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, a chemistry teacher and his former student who team up to make and deal crystal meth after White discovers he has cancer.
