MOSCOW, October 23 (RIA Novosti) – Russia has called on the West to persuade Kiev not to use cluster bombs against civilians in eastern Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said during a briefing in Moscow on Thursday.
“We in various formats call on the international community, including the United States of America and the countries of the European Union, to use their influence on Kiev to reach an unconditional halt of using cluster bombs in the future against civilians in the southeastern regions of Ukraine,” Lukashevich said.
“The use of cluster bombs in heavily populated or in any populated area is one of the gravest breaches in international humanitarian law and is qualified as a war crime,” Lukashevich added.
