MOSCOW, October 23 (RIA Novosti) - An individual, who climbed the White House fence, was caught by Secret Service agents and taken into custody, France24 reports.
“At approximately 7:16 p.m., an individual climbed the north fence line of the White House,” a Secret Service representative said. “The individual was immediately taken into custody on the north lawn of the White House by Secret Service Uniformed Division K-9 teams and Uniformed Division Officers.”
According to the Security Service employee, the suspect will be taken into hospital for a medical examination.
The incident took place only a month after another climber jumped over the fence and was able to enter the White House only a few minutes after President Obama had left in Marine One, as reported by Washington Post. The man, named Omar J. Gonzales, was arrested inside and taken to the hospital for medical tests. Reportedly, he served in Iraq and suffered from PTSD.
The motives of the both intruders currently remain unknown. However, the two incidents have raised concerns about the security of the US President’s residence, by revealing shortcomings in the Secret Service and highlighting the necessity of future restructuring and reform.
