WASHINGTON, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - 14-year-old Jaylen Fryberg has been confirmed as the gunman of Friday's fatal shooting at the Marysville-Pilchuck High School in Seattle, Washington, the KIRO 7 TV station reported.
The shooter, Jaylen Fryberg, was a freshman, recently suspended from the high school football team for fighting, KIRO 7 reported Friday.
Three students are currently in critical condition and undergoing surgery at the city's Providence Regional Hospital, and another is at the Harborview Medical Center. All victims have suffered severe head wounds.
Fryberg killed himself after he opened fire at the school cafeteria, killing at least one person, according to Marysville Police Department.
The incident took place at Marysville-Pilchuck High School Friday. The school is located north from Seattle, Washington state, and has around 2,500 students. It is currently on lockdown.
Public mass shootings in the United States have been on the rise since 2011, according to Harvard researchers. Studies show that a public mass shooting occurred on average every 172 days since 1982, while in September 2011 this number spikes to some 14 public incidents in less than every 172 days. In the subsequent three-year phase they occurred every 64 days on average.
