WASHINGTON, October 24 (RIA Novosti) - The risk facing the people of New York is exceedingly-low even after another patient was diagnosed with Ebola on Thursday, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Friday.
"Subway traffic today was typical for a Friday. I think that's an indication that the people of New York are feeling confident, as they should, about their safety as they go about their daily business," Earnest told reporters at a press briefing.
The White House expects that active monitoring procedures of individuals traveling from West Africa will be ramped up and in-place on Monday.
Craig Spencer was rushed to the hospital in New York immediately after showing Ebola-like symptoms on Thursday. Spencer is a physician for Doctors Without Borders and returned from Ebola-stricken Guinea 10 days ago.
Three health care workers exposed to the Ebola virus have contracted the disease while in the United States.
As of October 22, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports 4,877 people have lost their lives to Ebola. There are 9,936 cases of confirmed, likely and suspected Ebola infections in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Spain and the United States.
